Advisory: Secure Boot Certificate Expiration and Hive Fabric Guest VMs

Summary/Issue

This advisory informs customers about the upcoming expiration of Secure Boot certificates and HiveIO's planned mitigation for Hive guest VMs and Desktop Pools. While there is no immediate impact on system functionality, updating the certificates is crucial for long-term security and compatibility.

HiveIO Action Plan

Our team of experts is actively working to provide updated Secure Boot certificates.
  1. Target Release: Hive Fabric 8.6.3, which will include updated Secure Boot certificates for guest VMs, is targeted for release by the end of June.
  2. Update Note: This release may be used to update Guest VMs on your HiveIO platform.

Impact Assessment (Per Microsoft Guidance)

Microsoft advises that there is no immediate operational impact from the certificate expiry.
  1. Systems and virtual machines are not expected to stop working immediately if the Secure Boot certificates are not updated before expiry.
  2. Existing VMs should continue to boot normally in most cases.
  3. However, leaving the certificates outdated may increase security risk and could lead to future compatibility or boot issues during Windows updates, OS upgrades, or recovery operations.
